Building a new extension

We loved our house from the first time we went through, but it really didn't have enough living space. We have worked on improving the layout of the home and increasing the living area of the home to create a modern and more pleasant layout to the home. We are really proud of how the job has turned out and we wanted to share some of the details of how the extension and layout changes where designed and constructed. This blog has some of the photos of our extension as well as tips that we have learnt along the journey,.

Building Residential Homes and Structures With Recycled Plastic Products

Construction & Contractors Blog

There are many consumers who are concerned about the use of plastics and the best ways to build an environmentally sustainable home. Luckily, these two seemingly unrelated issues can be solved by using some of the new and innovative building materials made from recycled plastic building materials. Here are some of the advantages of using recycled plastic building materials.

Naturally rodent proof

For people who live in areas with high levels of mice, rats, and other rodents, using a rodent proof material can be very important. Aggressive rodents can eat through wood products, particularly those that are made from soft woods or 'particle board' (composite wood products). This can be a particular issue for rural properties, as farmers often deal with large numbers of mice at different times of the year.

Naturally insect proof and moisture resistant

Recycled plastic is also naturally resistant to termites which can make it a good option for decking and outdoor furniture. Equally, as recycled plastic doesn't absorb moisture, it's much more resistant to swelling and shrinking, which can make recycled plastic longer lasting and maintain its appearance over the long term compared to wood products.

Low maintenance

As recycled plastic products are dyed a given shade, they don't need to be regularly painted and/or oiled to maintain their appearance. This can be a great option for people who don't have the time or money for regular maintenance on their home. In addition to being great for decking and outdoor stairs, recycled plastic can also be a good option for external panelling on homes, creating an interesting and low maintenance exterior.

Low weight

Recycled plastic products have a relatively low weight compared to some of the more traditional building materials, such as wood and fibre cement boards, whilst maintaining a tough and robust material that can withstand normal impacts,a building will need to deal with (such as people knocking into walls, tree branches falling on the building, or impact from birds and pets).

Using recycled plastic products for building can make construction easier for builders to quickly and safely build homes, as well as making it easier for DIYers to build their own structures such as sheds without specialist building help.

If you are looking for an environmentally friendly option to build your new home and would like to find a way to reuse plastic, recycled plastic building products can be a great option. Why not chat to your builder to see how to incorporate some recycled plastic into your new home or structure?
