Building a new extension

We loved our house from the first time we went through, but it really didn't have enough living space. We have worked on improving the layout of the home and increasing the living area of the home to create a modern and more pleasant layout to the home. We are really proud of how the job has turned out and we wanted to share some of the details of how the extension and layout changes where designed and constructed. This blog has some of the photos of our extension as well as tips that we have learnt along the journey,.

Spring Into Action: How To Upgrade Your Residential Insulation This Spring

Construction & Contractors Blog

With spring in full swing, it's the perfect time to think about your residential insulation. Once summer gets here, you'll want to make sure that your home can stay as cool as possible. Then, once winter gets here, you have the opposite concern. You want your home to stay warm and cosy. That's where residential insulation comes into the picture. When you get the insulation just right, your home stays comfortable all year long. Not only that, but you can maintain control of your heating and cooling bills. If it's time to reinsulate your home, you need to take steps to avoid mistakes. Here are three steps to help you through the process.

Choose the Right Insulation

When it comes to insulating your home, it's crucial that you choose the right type of insulation. There are several types of residential insulation to choose from. Each one provides a specific type of protection, for various areas of the house.

Bulk

Bulk insulation includes rolls, batts, and insulative boards. This type of insulation is made from materials such as glass wool, polyester, and recycled paper. It's great for keeping your home cool during the summer and warm during the winter.

Reflective

Reflective insulation is more useful in areas of Australia where the temperatures tend to stay warmer throughout the year. This type of insulation helps to block the heat from entering your home.

Spray Foam

Spray foam insulation is preferable for use as pipe insulation and for insulating gaps in attic spaces. As a pipe insulation, it prevents your pipes from freezing during the winter.

Know Which Areas to Insulate

Once you've selected the type of insulation you need to use in your home, you'll need to narrow down the areas that require the added protection. There are three specific areas that should be inspected for insulation upgrades. Those are the ceilings, walls, and pipes. Without the right amount of insulation, you can lose a lot of energy through the walls and ceilings in your home. As discussed earlier, without adequate insulation, your pipes can freeze during the winter. This is especially true where exposed pipes are concerned. When upgrading your residential insulation this spring, be sure to focus on those three areas of your home.

Conduct Annual Inspections

Finally, once you have the insulation upgraded in your home, you'll need to monitor conditions. Insulation can wear out and lose its protective abilities after a few years. Because of that, it's important that you inspect the insulation in your home about once a year, especially the attic insulation.
